So according to the question we can write the given data as:

2x / 3 is greater than 1x / 3 by 3

So in equation form it is,

2x / 3 = x / 3 + 3

Solving the Right hand side we get,

2x / 3 = ( x + 9 ) / 3

3 gets cancelled on both sides and we get,

2x = x + 9

2x - x = 9

x = 9

Hence the number is 9.
