Two times of an number and three times of another number added together makes 49. Five times of first number added to three times of second number gives 73. Find the numbers.

Solution -

Let us consider the first number as x and second number as y

According to the question,

$2x + 3y = 49$

$3y = 49 - 2x.......1)$

And,

$5x + 3y = 73.......2)$

$5x + 49 - 2x = 73(by \: 1)$

$3x = 73 - 49$

$3x = 24$

$x = \frac{24}{3}$

$x = 8$

Now substituting the value of x in equation 2 we will get-

$5 \times 8 + 3y = 73$

$40 + 3y = 73$

$3y = 33$

$y = \frac{33}{3}$

$y = 11$

Therefore the first number is 8 and second number is 11
