two trains each of 120m in length,run in opposite directions with a velocity of 40m/s and 20m/s respectively how long will it take for the tail ends of the two trains to meet each other during the course of their journey

Length of 1st and 2nd train = 120m

Velocity of first train = 20m/s .

Velocity of 2nd train = 40m/s.

Therefore , Total distance to cover = 120 × 2m = 240m.

USING RELATIVE VELOCITY :

Relative distance = 240m.

Relative velocity of 1st train with respect to second = ( 40 + 20 ) m/s = 60m/s.

Therefore time taken = (240m/60m/s) = 4s.
