Two trains leave lucknow at 6 : 00
a.M. And 6 : 30
a.M. Respectively. Speed of the first train is 60 km/hr while that of the second one is 70 km/hr. How many kilometers from lucknow will they meet

They will meet at 210 km from lucknow.

First we have to assume some variables

Let time in which train train 2 meets train 1 = T

To cover the same distance as of train 2 , train 1 will take T+1/2 hours , because it has started 30 mins prior to train

Since distance covered by both are same

Therefore, 60(T+1/2)=70(T)

T=3 hours

Putting value of T in above equation as 70(T) we get 210KM.

Given :

Speed of first train = 60km/hr

Speed of second train = 70km/hr

To find :

The distance at which they meet from lucknow

Solution :

  • Time at which they meet = T
  • Time required by first train = T+ 1/2
  • we know that , Distance = Speed×Time

         60(T+1/2) = 70T

         60T + 30 = 70T

         10T = 30

         T = 3hrs

  • Distance travelled by second train = 70T

                                                          = 70(3) = 210km

They will again meet at a distance of 210km from Lucknow
