ANS=time =10second
Relative v=38–(—34)
=72=20m/s
Speed=distance/time=109+91/20=10sec

The answer is 10.2 seconds

GIVEN

Two trains of length 109 metre and 91 are moving in opposite directions with velocities 34 kilometre per hour and 38 kilometre per hour respectively.

TO FIND

In what time the two trains will completely cross each other?

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

We know that,

Length of longer train = 109 meters

Length of Smaller train = 91 meters

Let the velocity of longer train be V₁

V₁ = 34km/hr = 34 × 5/18 = 9 m/s

Let the velocity of smaller train be V₂

V₂ = 38 km/hr = 10.5 m/s

The trains will cross each other completely when they will cross the distance equal to the sum of their lengths

Distance = 109 + 91 = 200meters

Relative velocity of the trains(V₁₂) = V₁ + V₂ = 9 + 10.5 = 19.5 m/s

Time taken to cross each other = 200/19.5 = 10.2 seconds

Hence, The answer is 10.2 seconds
