Two trains running at 45km/h and 54km/h cross each other in 12 seconds when they run in opposite directions. When they run in the same direction the person in the faster train observes that he crosses the other train in 32 seconds. Find the length of the two trains.

Find the length of the two trains.

Given,

Speed of train A = 45 km/h

Speed of train B = 54 km/h

When running in the opposite direction, they cross each other in 12 s.

When running in same directions, they cross each other in 32 s.

To find,

Length of train A and B.

Solution,

When the trains run in the same direction,

Difference in speed = 54 - 45 = 9 km/h = 2.5 m/s

Time taken= 32 s

Therefore, length of the faster train = Distance

= Speed x Time

= 2.5 * 32

= 80

Length of train B = 80 m

When the trains run in different directions,

Total speed = 99 km/h = 27.5 m/s

Time = 12 s

Total length of both trains = total distance

= 27.5 * 12

= 330 m

Therefore, length of train A = 330 - 80

= 250

Length of train A= 250 m

Thus, length of train A is 250 m and length of train B is 80 m.
