Answer: They’re designed to get a lot of traction while spreading the weight of the tractor to limit compression of the soil. You’ll see many/most tractors have four tires on the rear, some even have six. The four are called duals and the six are called triples. Again, it’s for weight distribution and traction. Tractors have to pull big loads and go through all sorts of terrain. It’s been wet this year, and I’ve been driving through water in order to get some field work done. That’s when the extra tires come in handy.
