Two water squash mixture, the first having a water to squash ratio of 4 :1 and the other having a ratio of 3 :1 are blended in the ratio of 1 :2 what is the water and squash ratio in the blend

Let the amount of squash in the first mixture be "x".

Therefore, the amount of water in the first mixture will be 4x.

Similarly, Let the amount of squash in the second mixture be "y".

Therefore, the amount of water in the second mixture will be 3y.

Now, when the two squash mixtures are mixed, we have the blended ratio of 1:2.

Thus, we get: 5x:4y=1:2

$\frac{5x}{4y}=\frac{1}{2}$

$10x=4y$

$\therefore y=\frac{5}{2}x$

Now, ratio of water and squash in the mixed/blended container will be:

$\frac{4x+3y}{x+y}=\frac{4x+\frac{15x}{2} }{x+\frac{5}{2}x }=\frac{\frac{23x}{2}}{\frac{7x}{2}} =\frac{23}{7}$

Thus, $\frac{23}{7}$ is the correct answer.

The first squash has the ratio 4:1 that is out of 5 litres of juice there is 4 parts fo water and 1 l of squash'

While the second mixture has the ratio 3:1

that is out of 4 litres, 3 parts are water and 1 part is syrup,

now lets combine these in the ratio 1:2

that is 4 parts water+  1 part syrup and 6parts water( as the ratio is double)+2 parts syrup

So that would make 4+1+6+2 = 13 litres of juice

The new ratio is the 4+6 parts water : 1+2 parts squash

that is 10:3 is the new ratio
