let the time taken by one tank=x

the other tank can fill the tank 3hrs less than other so the time taken by other tank=x-3

the time taken by both the tanks =6hrs40min that is 6.40 hrs

x+x-3=6.40

2x=6.40+3

2x=9.40

x=9.40/2

x=4.70hrs

the time taken for first tank is 4.70hrs

time taken by second tank=x-3

4.70-3=1.70hrs
