Two wires of equal length and cross sectional area are suspended as shown in figure. Their youngs modulus are Y1= 2×10^11 Pa and Y2=0.90×10^11Pa respectively. What will be the equivalent youngs modulus

According to the figure we can see that the two wire of same length have the young modulus named Y1 and Y2

Let the equivalent modulus be Y

Therefore Y = Y1+Y2/2

                    = 2×10^11 +0.90×10^11 /2

                      = (2+0.90) x 10^11/2

                      = 1.45 x 10^11 Pa

Therefore the equivalent young modulus will be  1.45 x 10^11 Pa
