two year ago a father was five times as old as his son.two years later his age will be 8 more than three times the age of the son.set up two linear equations in two variables,to express the above statement.

son age = ( y - 2 ) years

father age = 5 times of son age

x -2 = 5 ( y - 2 )

x - 2 = 5y - 10

x - 5y -2 + 10 = 0

x - 5y + 8 = 0 ----( 1 )

2 years later

father age = ( x + 2 ) years

son's age = ( y + 2 ) years

father age = 3 times of the son's age + 8

x + 2 = 3 ( y + 2 ) + 8

x + 2 = 3y + 6 + 8

x + 2 - 3y - 6 - 8 = 0

x - 3y - 12 = 0----( 2 )
