2x + 4 = 5y + 10

2x - 5y - 6 = 0...............(2)

now multiply equation (1) with 2 and subtract

equation (1) - (2)

then

( 2x - 6y + 8 ) - ( 2x - 5y - 6 ) = 0

-y + 14 = 0

y = 14

put y in equation (1)

x - 42 + 4 = 0

x = 38

therefore present age of father = 38 year's

and son = 14 year's.
