Let the present age of father and son are x and y respectively.
Then by the given question,
x-2=5(y-2)
or, x-2=5y-10
or, x-5y=-10+2
or, x-5y=-8
or, x=-8+5y
and x+2=3(y+2)+8
or, x+2=3y+6+8
or, x+2=3y+14
or, x-3y=14-2
or, x-3y=12
or, -8+5y-3y=12
or, 2y=12+8
or, 2y=20
or, y=10
then, x=-8+5×10=-8+50=42
Present age of father is 42 and that of son is 10
