Answer:

now age of Appu is x years and age of Ammu is y years

before 2 years Appu was (x-2) years and Ammu was (y-2)years

so,

x-2=6(y-2)

=> x=6y-12+2

=> x=6y-10

after 4 years Appu will be (x+4)years and Ammu will be (y+4)years

x+4=3(y+4)

=> x=3y+12-4

=> x=3y+8

so,

6y-10=3y+8

=> 6y-3y=8+10

=> 3y=18

=> y=18/3

=> y=6

so, x=3.6+8=18+8=26

so ,now Appu is 26 years and Ammu is 6 years old

Answer:

Present ages

Let Ammu's present age be x

Past ages

Ammu's age 2 years ago = x-2

Then, Appu's age will be 6(x-2) = 6x-12

Future Ages

Ammu's age after 4 years = x+4

Then, Appu's age will be 3(x+4) = 3x+12

Assuming that Ammu's age is constant in past and future :

(6x-12) + (6 years) = 3x+12

6x -6 = 3x+12

3x = 18

x = 18/3 = 6

If Ammu's age is 6, Appu's age can be found out by substituting x with any of the formulas (6x-12 or 3x+12)

Appu's past age will be (6*6 - 12) = 24

So, Appu's present age will be 24+2 = 26 years

Final Answer :

Ammu's age = 6 years

Appu's age = 26 years
