let the age of his daughter be x

age of father 2 years ago=3(x-2)

again

6years later age of father=4+2(x+6)

A to Q

{4+2(x+6)}-3(x-2)=8

={4+2x+12}-3x+6=8

=16+2x-3x+6=8

=22-x=8

=-x=8-22

=x=14years age of Salim's daughter

Age of Salim is36+2=38 years

  • A.T.Q.

Let present age of Salim be x years.

And

Present age of his daughter be y years.

Two years ago (before = subtract) Salim (x) was (equal to) thrice (three times) as old as his daughter (y).

i.e.

(x - 2) = 3(y - 2)

x - 2 = 3y - 6

x = 3y - 6 + 2

x = 3y - 4 __[eq. (1)]

Six years later (after = sum) he (Salim) will be (equal to) four (+4) years older than twice (two timws) her age (daughter's age).

i.e.

(x + 6) = 2(y + 6) + 4

x + 6 = 2y + 12 + 4

x + 6 = 2y + 16

x = 2y + 16 - 6

x = 2y + 10

3y - 4 = 2y + 10

3y - 2y = 10 + 4

y = 14

Put value of y in eq. (1)

x = 3(14) - 4

x = 42 - 4

x = 38

  • Age of Salim = x years = 38 years.

And

  • Age of his daughter = y years = 14 years.
