The mother is 21 years elder than her daughter

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present age of mother be x and the present age of daughter be y

Mothers' age after 2 years = x+2

Daughter's age after 2 years =y+2

After 2 years the ratio of their ages will be 4:1

So, \frac{x+2}{y+2}=\frac{4}{1}

x+2=4y+8

x=4y+6 ---A

Mothers' age 2 years ago= x-2

Daughter's age 2 years ago =y-2

Two years ago the ratio of the age of a mother and her daughter was it was 8:1

\frac{x-2}{y-2}=\frac{8}{1}

x-2=8y-16

x=8y-14 --- B

Equate A and B

4y+6 =8y-14

20=4y

5=y

x=4y+6 =4(5)+6=26 years

Difference in ages = 26-5 = 21 years

Hence  the mother is 21 years elder than her daughter
