Step-by-step explanation:

Father's age = x

Son's age = y

After two years,

father's age = x + 2

son's age = y + 2

Given,

x + 2 = 3(y + 2) + 8

x + 2 = 3y + 6 + 8

x - 3y = 12 [Equation]

If x = 39,

39 - 3y = 12

- 3y = - 27

y = 9

if x = 36,

36 - 3y = 12

- 3y = - 24

y = 8

Hence two solution are :

39,9

36,8
