Let Salim's age be 'x' and
      his daughter's age be 'y'.
BEFORE 2 YEARS: Salim was thrice as old as his daughter.
                         ∴x-2=3(y-2)
                           x-2=3y-6
                          x-3y=-6+2
                         x-3y= -4
                            ∴x=-4+3y → 1
AFTER 6 YEARS: Salim will be 4 years than twice her age
     ∴x+6=2(y+6)+4
       x+6=2y+12+4
       x+6=2y+16
       x-2y=16-6
-4+3y-2y=10              (from 1)
            y=10+4
         ⇒y=14.
     x=-4+3y
       =-4+3(14)
       =-4+42
    ∴x=38.
∴The present age of Salim is 38 and his daughter's age is 14.

Hope this helps... c:
