Given:

Two young man going in double ride over a bike along a straight road. One man sitting back fall down from the bike.

To find:

Velocity of bike increases or decreases?

Calculation:

First of all, when the man fell down from the bike, no external force was used and hence the total linear momentum of the system will remain conserved.

Applying CONSERVATION OF LINEAR MOMENTUM:

  • Let final velocity of bike be v , mass of bike be m.

  • Mass of men be m1 and m2, and let's assume that m2 fell from bike.

  \rm\therefore \: (m1 + m2 + m)u = (m1 + m)v

 \rm \implies \:v = \dfrac{(m1 + m2 + m)}{(m1 + m)} \times u

 \rm \implies \:v > u

So, final velocity of bike increases.
