Given :   backyard contains a flower garden.

The dimensions of the actual garden are 5 feet by 7½ feet.

Flower Garden on drawing : 3 in x 4.5 in

To Find Scale factor

Solution:

The dimensions of the actual garden are 5 feet by 7½ feet.

1 ft = 12 inch

=> 5 feet = 5 * 12 = 60 inch

  7 1/2 feet = 7.5 * 12 = 90 inch

The dimensions of the actual garden are 60 inches by 90 inches

Flower Garden on drawing : 3 in x 4.5 in

3  : 60  = 1 : 20

4.5 : 90 = 1 : 20

Scale of drawing = 1 : 20

scale factor from the actual flower garden to the scale drawing  = 60/3 = 20/1

= 20 : 1

drawing is enlarged by a scale factor of 5/2

dimensions of the flower garden in the new scale drawing

=> 3(5/2)  and 4.5(5/2)

= 7.5  inches and  11.25 inches

new scale factor from the actual flower garden to the scale drawing = 60/7.5  = 8 : 1
