Tyler and Han are trying to solve this system by substitution: LaTeX: \begin{cases} x+3y=\text-5\\ 9x+3y=3 \end{cases}

Tyler wants to add the two equations together to cancel out the y's, but Han says you need to subtract the two equations. Who is right, and why?

Tyler and Han is trying to solve this system by substitution: x + 3y = -5. ... Hans first step is to isolate 3y in the first equation to get 3y = -5 - x show that both first steps can be used to solve the system and will yield the same solution.
