In Antigone, The author (Sophocles) uses indirect characterization. Antigone is shown to be stubborn and impulsive. Her sister, Ismene, directly calls her "stubborn." A description of Antigone's personality (including thoughts and feelings) are not provided to the audience.

Now, in the story "A Day of Community Service"  the author uses direct characterization. Fred's emotions and thoughts are shown to the audience.
