Example: a shop, the shop, the lady etc.

'A' and 'an' are indefinite article because it because they do not point out to any particular or definite noun. They are used before singular nouns, countable nouns and indefinite nouns.

Example :

Article 'a' comes before consonant sound.

Article 'an' comes before vowel sound (a,e,i,o,u).

Use of Definite Article - The

It is used to specify something or someone definite. It refers to a noun that is neither understood (by the reader or listener) or has been previously referred to by the writer or speaker.

The indefinite article 'an' is used for apple in the first sentence. In the second sentence article 'The' is used to indicate the same owl already talked about in first sentence.
