- Metacentric → centromere is in middle and chromosome has two equal arms
- Sub metacentric →centromere is slightly away from the middle and the chromosome is divided into one shorter arm and one longer arm
- Acrocentric→centromere is situated close to one end does forming one extremely short and one very long arm
- Telocentric→centromere is present at terminal position
