Cnidoblast are the oval-shaped cells which are present on the tentacles and the body.

There are three types of Cnidoblast:

$\implies$ Volvent

$\implies$ Glutinant


(a) $\text{\underline{Penetrant:}}$

$\bullet$ It is the largest nematocyst.

$\bullet$ During the discharge, it penetrates through the skin and injects the poisonous fluid.

$\bullet$ This poisonous fluid is called as hypnotoxin, that paralyzes the victim or kills the victim.


(b) $\text{\underline {Volvent:}}$

$\bullet$ It is the small nematocyst.

$\bullet$ The volvent consist of short, thick, spineless, smooth and elastic thread tube.

$\bullet$ When the discharge is done, volvent tightly coils around the prey.


(c) $\text{\underline {Glutinant:}}$

$\bullet$ The glutinants secret a sticky substance possibly used in locomotion.

$\bullet$ Cnidarians use cnidoblasts for defense.
