Cnidoblast are the oval-shaped cells which are present on the tentacles and the body.
There are three types of Cnidoblast:
Penetrant
Volvent
Glutinant
(a)
It is the largest nematocyst.
During the discharge, it penetrates through the skin and injects the poisonous fluid.
This poisonous fluid is called as hypnotoxin, that paralyzes the victim or kills the victim.
(b)
It is the small nematocyst.
The volvent consist of short, thick, spineless, smooth and elastic thread tube.
When the discharge is done, volvent tightly coils around the prey.
(c)
The glutinants secret a sticky substance possibly used in locomotion.
Cnidoblast helps the organism in capturing their prey.
Cnidarians use cnidoblasts for defense.
Cnidoblasts cells protect cnidarians against the attack of other animals.
With the help of their toxin and spines, cnidoblast either paralyzes them or kills them.
