Cnidoblast are the oval-shaped cells which are present on the tentacles and the body.

\sf{\underline{Types\:of\:Cnidoblast:}}

There are three types of Cnidoblast:

\implies Penetrant

\implies Volvent

\implies Glutinant

(a) \text{\underline{Penetrant:}}

\bullet It is the largest nematocyst.

\bullet During the discharge, it penetrates through the skin and injects the poisonous fluid.

\bullet This poisonous fluid is called as hypnotoxin, that paralyzes the victim or kills the victim.

(b) \text{\underline {Volvent:}}

\bullet It is the small nematocyst.

\bullet The volvent consist of short, thick, spineless, smooth and elastic thread tube.

\bullet When the discharge is done, volvent tightly coils around the prey.

(c) \text{\underline {Glutinant:}}

\bullet The glutinants secret a sticky substance possibly used in locomotion.

\sf{\underline{Functions\:of\:Cnidoblast:}}

\bullet Cnidoblast helps the organism in capturing their prey.

\bullet Cnidarians use cnidoblasts for defense.

\bullet Cnidoblasts cells protect cnidarians against the attack of other animals.

\bullet With the help of their toxin and spines, cnidoblast either paralyzes them or kills them.
