Elections are held in different ways in different countries.
In India, elections are of 4 types. We'll go through them as they occur.
1. General Elections -
This elections are held once in every 5 years. In this elections representatives of each Constituent are elected to Lok Sabha , and they are called Member of Parliament . The majority from a political party forms the Central Government.The general public is the voter.
2. Assembly Elections -
After General elections,elections to the State Assembly are held.Even this election is held after every 5 years.And the representatives elected are called Member of Legislative Assembly.The general public is the voter.
3. Rajya Sabha Elections -
The members to Rajya Sabha aren't elected by general public. Rather the ruling body or MLAs of the 29 states and 7 Union territories elect the members.
4. Presidential Elections -
Here also the President is not elected by general public but is elected indirectly . That is the voters are MLAs, MPs (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) elect the President from 2 given candidates by the major ruling and opposition party.
