2. on the basis of nature of residence= family of patrilocal residence, family of matrilocal Residence, family of changing residence.

3. on the basis of ancestry or descent= matrilineal , patrilineal family.

4. on the basis of nature of authority= patriarchal family matriarchal family.

5. on the basis of size or structure and generation= the nuclear or single family , the joint undivided family
