Explanation:

the rubbing of one surface or thing against another

Types of friction

(a) static friction

(b) sliding friction

(c) rolling friction

(d) fluid friction

pros -friction provided a resistive force to the motion of object , without it nothing around us can stay in place it helps to keep object stationary. when driving on wet surfaces friction help to provide more stability and control for the moving object.

cons -in general friction on cars means that you need to keep pumping petrol to the engines to keep the car moving friction in windmills means that we can't reach 100% efficiency when using renewable energy wind because produces wasteful heat heat if you are running and you fall in a rough surface friction force can cause injury in your skin.

Answer :-

Friction is the force that opposes the relative motion between the two surfaces of objects in contact.

Types of friction :-

There are 5 types of friction :- static friction, sliding friction, rolling friction, fluid friction.

Static Friction :-

Static friction is defined asthe frictional force that acts between the surfaces when they are at rest with respect to each other.

Sliding Friction :-

When a body slides over another one, the friction acting there is known as sliding or kinetic friction.

Rolling Friction :-

A Rolling friction is a resistive force that opposes the rolling motion of an object. Rolling friction occurs when a round object rolls around a surface.

Fluid Friction :-

Fluid friction is the force that resists motion either within the fluid itself or of another medium moving through the fluid.

PROS AND CONS OF FRICTION :-

Pros of friction :

  • Friction is responsible for many types of motion
  • It helps us walk on the ground
  • Brakes in a car make use of friction to stop the car
  • Asteroids are burnt in the atmosphere before reaching Earth due to friction.
  • It helps in the generation of heat when we rub our hands.

Cons of Friction :

  • Friction produces unnecessary heat leading to the wastage of energy.
  • The force of friction acts in the opposite direction of motion, so friction slows down the motion of moving objects.
  • Forest fires are caused due to the friction between tree branches.
  • A lot of money goes into preventing friction and the usual wear and tear caused by it by using techniques like greasing and oiling.
