1). Local Area Network

A local area network (LAN) is a group of networked computers that are relatively close together, such as in the same building. Home networks, in particular, are always set up as LANs and are most often used to share an Internet connection or to run multipleplayer computer games.

2). Wide Area Network

A wide area network (WAN) is group of LANs or internetworks that are spread out over a relatively large geographical area, such as a city, country, or even the world. The networks in a WAN are typically
connected through high-speed fiber-optic phone lines, microwave dishes, or satellite links.

3). Peer-to-Peer Network

A peer-to-peer network is one in which each computer performs its own network chores, such as storing files, sharing resources with the network, and implementing network security. Peer-to-peer networks are simple to set up and are inexpensive, and so they are well suited
to small networks. Windows Vista and Mac OS X come with built-in peer-to-peer networking capabilities.

4). Client/Server Network

A client/server network is one in which the networking chores are mostly handled by a large, powerful computer called a server. The computers in the network, called the clients, connect to the server and use it to store files, run programs, and implement security. The client/server model is designed for large, complex networks. Windows
Server 2008, Mac OS X Server, and Novell NetWare are examples of client/server systems.

\bold{personal\:area\:network}

this network is used to establish communication between two computers of range 20 to 30 feet .

\bold{local\:area\:network}

the same network is generally preferred within a small area, within half a kilometre.

\bold{Metropolitan\:area\:network}

this network connects two or more local area networks

\bold{Wide\:area\:network}

it is a digital communication system which interconnects a large number of computers in a wide area. it is also called World Wide Web
