Types of sentences and their definition

1) declarative(assertive) sentence states a fact or an opinion. It is otherwise called a statement. It can be either affirmative or negative. It ends with full stop(.).

For example - •My mother sent me sweets.(affective)

•My sister doesn't like sweets.(negative)

2) An interrogative sentence asks a question about someone or something. It can be a 'w question or a 'yes/no' question. Examples Why are you late today? • Do you love music?

3) An imperative sentence makes a request or gives an order or advice. It asks someone to do something. The subject of an imperative sentence is 'you',either stated or understood.

Example-•stand up .

• keep quite.

•Call the fire Brigade.

• Don't play in the Sun.

4)An exclamatory sentence express a strong feeling or emotion. An exclamatory sentence ends with the mark of excavation (!).

Example-•What a beautiful flower!

•How hot a day it is!

5) An optative sentence is used to a wish or prayer.

Example-•May you all succeed!

•long live the President!
