Social Forestry is of following four types :

  • Farm Forestry in which individual farmers plant trees on their farmland to protect their crops from bad weather, and to meet their domestic needs of fuel and fodder.

  • Community forestry or Rural forestry is raising trees on community land. The seedlings and fertilisers are provided by the government and communities take care.

  • Extension forestry or Urban forestry is the tree plantation on the sides of roads, canals, railways and also on waterlands.

  • Agroforestry includes silviculture along with agricultural crops and livestock ranching on the same land. This is the most sustainable use of land to obtain maximum yield by combining food crops with forest trees and livestock with maximum utilisation of even the patches of wasteland.
