A) PRIMARY CLASSIFICATION - plane survey and geodetic survey

B) SECONDARY CLASSIFICATION -

1/ based on instrument - chain survey,compass survey,planetable survey, theodolite survey,aerial survey etc.

2/based on objects -  land survey( like - cadastral survey,engineering survey , city survey etc) ,mine survey etc

3/ based on nature of field - military survey,astronomical survey ,marine survey etc
