The zener diode is Silicon crystal diode having a special reverse current characteristics. In zener diode as the reverse voltage applied on p-n junction is increased, a limit comes when the current increases abruptly from its cut off value and zener diode begins to behave almost like a conductor. This limiting voltage is called the "Zener Voltage' or "Breakdown voltage" and the resulting large current as 'Zener Current"
