17. Mapping of Village: A patwari decides to map his native village by assigning coordinates to each house,
For this, he assigned origin to village chaupal's central point and two mutually perpendicular lines through
it as x-axis and y-axis respectively. Ram's house is 300 metres East and 120 metres North of chaupal
whereas Sheela's house is 200 metres West and 100 metres North to Ram's house. Village dispensary is
diametrically opposite to Sheela's house with y-axis acting as midway between the two.

→ Let Panchayat Bhawan divides join of Sheela's and Ram's house in ratio of m : n .

so,

→ 200 = (m*300 + n100) / m + n

→ 200m + 200n = 300m + 100n

→ 200n - 100n = 300m - 200m

→ 100n = 100m

→ m / n = 100/100

→ m : n = 1 : 1 (b) (Ans.)

Question 4) :- Walking 500 m towards west from Sheels's house then walking 1 km towards south lands you in village's sarpanch house. How far is sarpanch house from Panchayat bhawan ?

Answer :-

• Coordinates of sarpanch house = (400,780)
• Coordinates of Panchayat Bhawan = (200,170)

so,

→ Distance = √{(x2 - x1)² + (y2 - y1)²} = √{(200 - 400)² + (170 - 780)²} = √(40000 + 372100) = √(412100) = 642 m.
