Canals are not common in the United Arab Emirates due to the extremely high temperatures. At these temperatures, a major percentage of water evaporates and is lost.

Hence, better and more suitable methods of transporting water for agricultural purposes are employed in the UAE.

Drip irrigation is the most common and effective method of irrigation, in regions with high temperatures such as the UAE. In this, water is delivered directly to the base of the plants thereby preventing loss of water by evaporation etc.

Effective irrigation results in more plants and trees, which help to prevent soil erosion, provide shade and to an extent in causing rain.
