Glass
thermometers of any kind have not been used in any practice setting I
have worked in for the past 15 years. Mercury thermometers were phased
out close to 20 years ago. The risk of glass breakage and the time
needed to take a temperature has made glass thermometers a relic of the
past. We now use noninvasive forehead thermometers or tympanic
electronic thermometers. Electronic thermometers read in seconds instead
of minutes.
