Uma lived with her parents and brother in a small town in Calcutta. She was considered a troublesome child by her family from the moment she learnt to write her first few alphabets. All the walls in the house soon got decorated with Uma's alphabets scribbled with coal. She would use anything and everything as her patent notebook and scribble on the family calender, her father's account book and so on. Nobody scolded Uma till one day when she wrote her rhymes on her brother's essays. He scolded her in a rage, beat her up and later also took her books & the piece of coal away. Her brother considered himself a great scholar and his essays as a significant contribution to the society. Uma's tiny constructions, on the other hand, were deemed useless. When Uma's brother's anger subsided, he returned her back her dear possessions. However very soon Uma was in no need of these possessions. Opportunities for reading, writing and self expression came to an end as she got married. In her new house, though she carried these dear belongings, they could not be openly treasured. In her husband's house a reading & writing woman was considered an abnormality. And so this marked an end to this young writer's career at the age of nine. - (11)Why was Uma considered to be a problematic child?

Answer:

BECAUSE OF CHILD MARRIAGE

Explanation:

BECAUSE THAT PEOPLE USE TO THINK THAT IS IF GIRLS READ AND WRITE THE WOULD BE EXPOSED TO NEW IDEAS. PEOPLE THOUGHT IT MAY BRING BAD LUCK TO THERE HUSBAND. THAT IS WHY THAT GIRLS WHERE NOT LITERATE BUT SOMEDAY SOMEONE WOULD BREAK THIS STEREOTYPE AND ENCOURAGE GIRLS TO BE WHAT THEY WANT. HERE ARE EXAMPLES OF SUCCESSFUL WOMEN'S LIKE AMELIA EARHART, LAKSHMI LAKHRA, PANDITA RAMABHAI,ROKEYA SAKHAWAT HOSSAIN AND MANY MORE . THE WHO WERE SUCCESSFUL IN BREAKING STEREOTYPE.
