Answer: This is a story told by the narrator about a man who has set his mind on being an example of good manners and work ethic but fails miserably to do so.
Uncle Podger used to advise his children to always leave early with a quarter of an hour left but what happened everyday with him was a different story.
The railway station Was an eight minute walk away from uncle podger’s home but he always gets late as he used to rush for the station when there is five minutes left in departure of the train.This has become an suburban custom as every morning folks gather around the railway station common to watch city gentlemen running for the train, they cheered the most deserving also.Uncle podger used to get early in the morning,he feels angry when he cannot find his thing around him, most of the time it was his newspaper, his bag and his umbrella were missing, all the children of the house then went on searching those things in the various areas of the house.He blamed others for on losing his things as he said that he is surrounded by Conjurers who disappears his thing on purpose just to annoy him.
Aunt Maria used to gather all the children in the hall to so that uncle podger can give them a goodbye kiss, there’s always a child missing and the other children then go out to find him but at last the missing child would come to him itself.And if everything goes on smoothly then the eldest boy would come and say the clocks of the house are five minutes slow , this would send uncle rushing towards the station.When all the children returned to their places they find that the most important thing is left behind in the house, on which they wonder what would uncle say when he comes back to home. The moral of the story is always practice what you preach.
