Given info : Under constant pressure condition, a sample of hydrogen gas initially at 85°C and 7.2 L is cooled until its final volume 5.2 L.

To find : the final temperature of sample of hydrogen gas is..

solution : Under constant pressure,

volume of gas is directly proportional to temperature [ this is also known as Charlie's law ]

i.e., V ∝ T

⇒V₁/V₂ = T₁/T₂

here V₁ = 7.2 L, V₂ = 5.2 L ,

T₁ = 85°C = 273 + 85 = 358 K

T₂ = ?

so, 7.2/5.2 = 358/T₂

⇒T₂ = 358 × 5.2/7.2 = 251.56 K

Therefore final temperature of sample of hydrogen gas is 251.56 K.
