Follow the given steps
1) draw line segment and put no. on line e.g -3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4
2) draw 1cm line perpendicular to line from 1
3) now join 0 to end of line which we drawn
the distance from 0 to end of 1cm perpendicular line is √2
how :
let the triangle ABC which was obtained
therefore, this triangle is right angle triangle
hence, by Pythagoras theoram
AC^2 = AB^2 + BC ^2
= (1)^2+(1)^2
= 1+1
AC^2 = 2
AC = √2
4) now take compass and put it on √2 line then cut the line segment
Hence the cutting by compaas is the √2 on no. line
