See, you have to understand the under roots as x. Then 6 = x

 \sqrt{6}  +  \sqrt{6}  = x + x

 \sqrt{6}  +  \sqrt{6}  = 2x

Now substitute the value of x = 6

 \sqrt{6}  +  \sqrt{6}  = 2 \sqrt{6}
