Mrinal Gore (1928 – 2012), socialist leader and Member of Parliament, led women in demonstrations against rising prices of household commodities and fight for woman empowerment. These demonstrations and processions, came to be known as ‘Laatne Morchas’ (‘Laatna’ means rolling pin).
Under her leadership, during such demonstrations, women did not resort to violence but followed peaceful means of driving home the message to politicians and administrators.
