When an object is moving in a straight line, it's displacement is equal to its distance.

Average speed=Total distance/Total time

whereas,

Average velocity=Total displacement/Total time

Therefore, since the displacement is equal to the distance, the average velocity and average speed will be the same when the object is moving in a straight line.
