sodium react with oxygen to form compound that contains twice than oxygen .compounds such as I need to go to unusually leave in oxygen and formed peroxides .

Sodium is a highly volatile substance it can react with oxygen

We cannot keep it in open because it may react with oxygen , so we keep it in kerosene

There are no special condition required only oxygen can make it react
