A farmer treats his farm with quicklime/ slaked lime/ chalk when the soil is too much acidic. To reduce the acidity of the soil it is treated with a base to neutralize the excess acid.

Answer:

If the soil is acidic in nature (PH below 7) then such field should be treated with quick lime (calcium oxide) or slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) or chalk (calcium carbonate).
