Under which condition can handpicking be used to separate the constituents of a mixture

handpicking be used to separate the constituents of a mixture as some of the substances are easily separate by picking up the impurities by hand. but some of them cannot be removed by hand and we need some other methods of separation for such mixture . eg:separation of stone and insects from rice simply by hand.

hand pick is just used to separate things like minutes but this condition will not work on other ,to separate other minutes we me may need some extra material like tongs, etc
