The universities of ‘Bombay and Calcutta and Madras’ were set up under governor-generalship of Lord Canning.

EXPLANATION:

Lord Canning was an English man and was the Governor-General of India. During the revolt in 1858, he ensured that the administration ran smoothly and took important administrative decisions. He also had a hand in passing the Widow Remarriage Act of 1856.  

He had a major in establishing the three Universities at Bombay, Calcutta, and Madras. After the transfer of power from the East India Company he was the first Viceroy of India.
