Explanation:
Ragini lived in a shanty along the railway line. All she had was her
mother .Her father passed away in an accident when she was a toddler , and
ever since , the mother and the daughter had been fighting a tremendous
battle against poverty . Tulika , Ragini’s mother ,was a seamstress, and
whatever little money she earned by stitching clothes was almost entirely
spent in paying Ragini’s school fee. Ragini, from a very young age , had
been giving tuitions to children to help her mother. The only valuable asset
had was a gold necklace which Tulika had inherited from her mother on her
wedding .
Ragini’s heart ached every time she imagine the unbearable agony her
mother went through every day .Grief made her resolute , and she studied
harder to complete her education successfully . Things eventually changed
for better when Ragini got a good employment. They could finally leave
their shabby shelter and move to a decent neighbourhood. Ragini also got
her mother’s mortgaged necklace released.
Tulika and Ragini found happiness in life. One day, while sitting by the
window, Ragini thought, ‘Finally, Ma and I saw the light of the day. Hard
work probably …no, not probably, but definitely pays off.’
