Answer:

There are two concepts,

One is spiritual and the other is learning about why you do the things you do. Pick your poison or use a little bit of both in order to find yourself but to also mold yourself.

One important point, is the thing about understanding yourself is that you need to create the self that you want to understand. So it’s not so much about trying to understand yourself, but more defining yourself in who you want to be.

If you take the spiritual route, it will strip you of all you thought you were and from that place you will need to decide if you want to be understood or defined at all. Life will probably force you to define yourself in some way to at least make a living.

From the conventional route, it will likely add a lot of attributes to yourself that you truly aren’t which you will soon realize in despair and vanity.

I think the best route is to take a mixture of both but take spiritual dogma with a grain of salt, you don’t not want to get thrown to deep down the rabbit hole as that will potentially create even more confusion in yourself.

In conclusion. Your self is actually nothingness, it’s a empty cup waiting to be filled with whatever you desire to fill it with. This is the beauty and tragedy of life. “Who am I?” You are ultimately whatever you fill your empty cup with. Granted we each do have unique gifts and abilities, so don’t forget to top your cup off with them.

Explanation:

As you keep up with everything going on in your life – the responsibilities, the obligations, even the distractions – there will be times when you’ll look in the mirror and struggle to recognize yourself. “Where did I go? How can I understand myself better?” you’ll ask, wondering how you’ve ended up where you are. “How did my plans for the future end up so… screwed up?”

When you don’t take the time to understand yourself and who you are, your sense of individuality weakens. You become easily influenced and pushed into a lifestyle that doesn’t represent who you are. The good news is you can gradually transition into the life you want by periodically “checking in” with yourself – the better you understand yourself, the easier it will be to steer your life in the right direction.
