Answer:

The environment consists of the air, water, land, and all the conditions that surround living organisms. It is important to note that all the systems in the environment are interrelated such as the interactions of animals and humans on the ecosystems.

In India, the present environment is undergoing rapid change due to a population explosion. Many environmental issues due to this growth are affecting the people of India. First of all, environmental degradation, the deterioration of the earth, is being caused by over farming the land to provide for this growing population. As the soil gets poorer, so do crops. As a result, famine and disease become widespread as there is not enough food to feed the populace.

Next, India has a large problem with untreated sewage. Many of the sewage treatment plants are old and inoperable and stay closed most of the time. This situation results in water pollution as the sewage leaches to surface and ground water causing disease and bacteria to spread to people and animals.

Another environmental concern is air pollution. India leads in the burning of fuel wood and biomass, and it also leads in fuel emissions and traffic congestion. This, in turn, leads to increasing greenhouse emissions, leading to climate change.

India also has a problem with solid waste pollution. It is common to see rotting garbage stacked on street corners or thrown into rivers and lakes contaminating the water. As the population grows, so does the amount of garbage.

As you can see, environment affects the quality of life for the people of India and can also have global impact on climate. Environmental regulations need to be better enforced to protect the land, people, animals, and crops.

Answer:

The ecosystem (all the communities of living organisms found in a specific place, their habitats and their interactions) in which we live provides natural services for humans and all other species that are essential to our health, quality of life and survival. For example, our forests remove carbon dioxide and other pollutants from the air we breathe and also cool our air temperatures, reducing the formation of ground-level ozone, a pollutant that can cause heart and lung problems to worsen; our wetlands store storm water, filter and make harmless storm water pollutants, and recharge our aquifers (where most of us get our drinking water) with these filtered waters; and the dune systems on our beaches form natural barriers to storm waves and provide important habitat and travel ways for wildlife.

Below are three environmental goals that are critical to achieving sustainable societies and being good environmental stewards, some of their economic, social and environmental benefits, and some of the actions we can take to achieve these goals.
